INFORMATION

Summer Reading

All students enrolled in an English class next year need to check out the summer reading book for their class. Books are available in the library and need to be checked out by the end of the school year. Make sure you get the appropriate assignment sheet for your class. Happy reading!

 

OUTDOOR EDUCATION STUDENT COUNSELORS

Juniors and Seniors will be needed for Outdoor Ed sessions at the beginning of the new school year.

·        Bell Elementary - August 23 & 24

·        Prairie Queen and La Vista West - August 25 & 26

·        Patriot - August 29 & 30

There will be a table at Registration on August 4th & 5th, with a representative available to answer questions and register interested students.

You may inquire in Career Ed or Guidance if you need information now.

 

LOST AND FOUND

Stop by the tables in the office hallway and claim any of your missing items.

 

Medication

Just a reminder from the nurse to pick up any medication in the health office before the end of the year.  If it is not picked up, it will be discarded.  

 

Fees and Fines:

The end of the year is quickly approaching and several students owe fees and fines that are separate from the library.  Students can stop by Titan Town to check on any fines they may have that are overdue.  Fines need to be paid as soon as possible and before students can go through end of year checkout and also be approved for fall registration. 

 

All students interested in auditioning for the fall Musical Grease:

Preliminary musical audition information packets are now available from Mr. Nienhueser in room A11.

What: Easter Seals Program

Kick-Off Date: Thursday, May 26th, from 6:00-7:00pm (this will be an informational meeting)

Location: Easter Seals Office, 12565 West Center Road, Omaha, NE 68144

Cost: $30 registration fee per student

This will be a new summer program that will kick-off on Thursday, May 26th, and then have more opportunities for students to sign up for specific dates during the summer months where they would come out to camp and work with the medical, education, and program staff that help provide a camp experience for students and adults with special needs. Participating Explorers will get hands on experience working with the staff members during the days out at camp and will also be able to learn more about the various career paths that they can take to work with special needs students in the future. They will also be able to count their time at camp as volunteer hours and will have the opportunity to get certified in CPR and possibly more.

 

This program will be an excellent opportunity for students who are interested in Education, Special Education, Youth Care, Physical Therapy, Nursing and more.

 

Drivers Education for Summer

Registration for summer driver’s education class is now being accepted in the Guidance Office.

Classes at PLSouth meet from June 13-June 24.  Classes meet from either 8:00 - 10:00 or 10:00 - 12:00 daily.  Classes are limited to 45 per session.  Cost for the class is $350.  Payment to PLSHS required with registration.  Students have from June 13 thru July 22 to complete their behind-the-wheel training.  Additional information regarding the driver ed program is available on our plshs.paplv.org website.  Look under downloads/drivers ed.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Electrical Apprentice positions are available with Signature Electric.  Due to the low unemployment in our community, Signature is able to hire a couple of apprentices who have no prior work experience in the trade.  This company offers a highly competitive wage and benefits package that includes health insurance, 401K and profit sharing.  They also cover the tuition cost for the Associates Degree in Applied Science at Metropolitan Community College or for apprenticeship classes.  Either can be completed at night while working full time.

 

Starting wages are $12.00 - $13.00 per hour and are reviewed twice each year during the 4 year apprenticeship.  After working in the trade for years, an apprentice is eligible to take the State Journeyman Electrician’s Exam.  After passing, and electrician can make at least $54,000 annually in wages.
