Jeff Johnson
Mr. Jeff Johnson is the Principal of Papillion-La Vista South High School. He previously served as the school's Assistant Principal/Activities Director since the opening of the building in 2003. He came to Papillion-La Vista South from Grand Island High School, where he was the Assistant Principal/Activities Director since 1998. Mr. Johnson was also an Assistant Principal at Norfolk Senior High from 1996-1998. He also taught high school biology and English at Plainview Public Schools from 1989-1996. Mr. Johnson received his master degree in secondary administration from Wayne State College. He received his undergraduate degree in Secondary Education--Biology and English from Doane College. Jeff Spilker

Jeff Spilker is an Assistant Principal at Papillion-La Vista South High School.  Mr. Spilker came to Papillion-La Vista South in 2005, after receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He primarily works with 9th grade students and staff, Special Education, Classified Staff, Technology, and Professional Development. Prior to his position as Assistant Principal, he was a math teacher at PLSHS for ten years.  Along with teaching math, Mr. Spilker also served as an assistant baseball coach at the school.  Mr. Spilker has received a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in technology along with a Master’s of Educational Administration. Brett Grell
Mr. Brett Grell is an Assistant Principal at Papillion-La Vista South. He took on this role in January of 2010 after serving as an English teacher at PLSHS for the previous six years. He came to the district from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he served as Head of Humanities at Nueva Esperanza Academy Charter High School. He is a graduate of Knox College with Undergraduate degrees in English and Secondary Education. Jeremy Van Ackeren
Mr. Jeremy Van Ackeren is the Assistant Principal/Activities Director at Papillion-La Vista South High School. Prior to coming to PLSHS, Jeremy was an Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Papillion Junior High for 3 years. Mr. VanAckeren began his teaching career at Leigh Community Schools in 1993 where he coached three sports and taught math.  He then taught math and coached at Norfolk Senior High School for 8 years before moving on to Papillion Junior High.  While at Papillion Junior High, he taught math for 4 years and was the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Papillion-LaVista South.  Mr. VanAckeren received his undergraduate degree from Wayne State College in the area of Secondary Education-Math.  He also received his Master of Educational Administration-Secondary degree from Wayne State in 2000.  You may contact Mr. Van Ackeren by phone at 402-829-4618 or email him at

Trent Steele
Mr. Trent Steele is a graduate of the University of Nebraska in the area of secondary education/social studies.  He taught in Kearney, Nebraska.  He has both a masters degree in educational administration and a juris doctor in law, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Nebraska.  Mr. Steele has had experiences as an administrator at Anselmo-Merna Public Schools, Beatrice Middle School, and was an assistant principal at Kearney High School for six years.  Most recently, Mr. Steele has worked for the Nebraska State Education Association.  You may contact Mr. Steele at (402) 829-4617 or at
