Debate is a class offered in four levels, and includes freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The Debate club is not limited to students enrolled in the course, but it is suggested that students take at least one semester of the class, or have knowledge of the format, prior to attempting to compete.

Competition runs from November to March, and the tournaments are held at area high schools. Usually the time commitment is from 7:00am until 5:00pm on Saturdays. Students are able to choose which tournaments they attend; they just need to commit to the coach one week prior to the tournament date. A one-time $20 fee is charged to any student wanting to compete, and this fee includes entrance fees and transportation to any and all competitions. Debate II students are required to attend one tournament per semester; Debate III and IV students are required to attend three tournaments per year, one of which must be a non-congress event.

In order to letter, students must accumulate 100 points from the National Forensics League. Competition is offered in Policy Debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, and Student Congress.
